I think I said on my last piece that I was going to start posting some more stuff from college, so here is my favorite piece I've made of ALL time!
The project was Classical as Contemporary so I took a face study of Julius Caesar done in the Renaissance and gave him a more modern appearance with the different hair and the tattoo. The tattoo is a reference to Julius Caesar's history. Back in his time, homosexuality was something that was normal, but obviously it started to become abnormal somewhere between then and a little while ago before the fight for Gay Rights really got rolling (I myself am asexual, so I'm really happy to know that homosexuality and all other sexualities are being accepted by more and more parts of the world
). Anyway, Julius Caesar at one point was the male lover of the King Nicomedes ("Nico") of Bithynia. Afterwards when he was trying to be a ruler, he was taunted for it as (this is what I believe may have been the case) since he was the lover of the king, he might have not been the dominant one in the relationship, so that may have been why he was taunted. Therefore, I believe he may have regretted the relationship, hence why the name is crossed out.
I hope you all liked that history lesson!
Let me know if you think my art has improved since I was last posting handmade pieces rather than photos
